Flag from the independent Community of the Canary IslandsAware of the tourism significance which has scuba diving in the Canarian Islands and of the increasing number of diving operations, the Canarian government voted a law regulating the activity of the Islands Centres in April 2006, with the aim to guaranty to the public safety and quality of service.

The setting in conformity is a slow task, complicated, and raises administrative, financial and technical difficulties, new until then.

The town hall of Arona took the initiative to organize several times this year, meetings between the various actors of the profession, in order to concretely identify the problems to which must face the managers of the dive centres of the municipality. The latest one, from the 4th of November, was a success.

The following representatives of the government were present:

- Antonio Luis Sosa Carballo, Councilman of Environment and Urbanism from the Arona Town Hall
- Julio Javier Calzadilla Rodriguez, Engineer chief of the Activities Office from the Arona Town Hall
- Elena Delgado, inspector of the Maritime Harbour Office from Santa Cruz of Tenerife
- Manuel Enrique Villaverde Mustafa, Management Technician of the delegated Ministry of Fishing from Santa Cruz of Tenerife
Only, the Head Office of Industry shone by its absence of representation.

A charter of quality, specific for the diving centres of the municipality, will be proposed to the Arona Town Hall the year to come.
